The Year of the Dragon!
We celebrated the Chinese New Year today in conjunction with my first grader’s Where the Mountain Meets the Moon block. We had such a great time learning about this new (to us!) holiday, that my son prayed tonight that we would keep celebrating for fourteen more days. (We read that Chinese New Year was a fifteen day celebration!) We began the new year by really cleaning the kids’ rooms. (I love traditions that involve housekeeping.) Sweep out the old year, bring in the new!
We made candy firecrackers.
We made paper dragons.
We made banners to hang on the sides of our front door.
Pintail’s says, “May your happiness be as wide as the Eastern Sea.” Teal’s says, “Wishing you ten-thousand generations.” (Additional characters added for fun.)
We ate dinner at a local Chinese restaurant with Granny, then returned home to open the candy firecrackers and do a dragon dance while singing ”Gung Hay Fat Choy.”
2012 is the Year of the Dragon! Gung Hay Fat Choy!
